About Us · SpecLabs

The voices behind our stories are on the spectrum

Virtually all of Speech Kingdom’s voice actors are children and young adults on the autism spectrum, many of whom have spent years in speech and other therapies themselves. Through our partnership with Spectrum Laboratory, they bring authentic voices and lived experience to the stories our students hear every day.

From the therapy room to the recording booth

Speech Kingdom’s stories are professionally recorded at Spectrum Laboratory and directed by Cathy McAuley, a multi-award-winning television and Broadway National Tour actress. Many of the young artists behind the voices have spent years in speech and other therapies themselves.

Real voices model real prosody

Authentic rhythm, intonation, and expression give students natural models of spoken language.

Representation students can hear

Autistic young artists bring their own voices to Speech Kingdom’s stories, giving students authentic representation while celebrating the talent of performers on the spectrum.

Professional studio, professional direction

Every performance is professionally recorded and directed to bring clarity, expression, and personality to each story.
